Photos of the Disney Fantasy’s AquaLab

A Splish splash cruising adventure! Kids & Families will love this new water zone feature on the upper deck of the Disney Fantasy – near the entrance to the AquaDuck water coaster. It’s an 1800 sq ft space chock full of pop jets, geysers and bubblers creating a fanciful environment for a fun & wet family activity.

Per the press release, the AquaLab was created by Donald Duck’s nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, and features a variety of water “experiments” designed to drench the whole family. And supposedly the nephews have run off to play  - leaving the cruisers in charge of the AquaLab.

And no worries about this replacing the enchanting Nemo’s Reef attraction new to the Disney Dream ship – as Nemo’s Reef will also be on the Disney Fantasy too. This attraction is extra special fun for the toddler & preschool aged tykes. My kids were infatuated with this little play area – so much fun for kids to frolic and splash on deck!

Here’s some cute shots of Kenzie and Kyle having a blast at Nemo’s Reef & on the Mickey Slide from our Disney Dream Cruise last year.

Like the Disney Dream, The Fantasy will also feature the AquaDuck water coaster, the classic Micky Pool with Mickey’s Water Slide, Nemo’s Reef, Donald’s Pool with funnel vision LED TV screen, and the adult only Quiet Cove Pool & Bar area.

The Disney Fantasy looks to have even more fabulous wet activities than the Disney Dream besides the addition of this stellar AquaLab.

The Fantasy ship will also feature the following:

  • On deck 12 forward, a wading pool with a fountain water feature, ample seating and lounge chairs under canopy offer a respite in the shade.
  •  Satellite Falls (Exclusive for Adults only)On Satellite Sun Deck – deck 13 forward – a brand-new water feature called Satellite Falls is a circular splash pool with benches and a gently falling rain curtain that provides cool comfort. Around this upper deck, adult guests can soak up the sun in loungers or relax in the shade under a canopy.

Dumbo Placed on the Stern of the Disney Fantasy Cruise Boat Today!

Big day! Dumbo was spotted today as he was placed on the stern of the Disney Fantasy in the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. Wow!

The maiden voyage will take place on March 31st, 2011. I can’t wait to follow & share all the new ship details on the Disney Fantasy!

Here’s a neat behind the scenes video with Disney Imagineers sharing how and why Dumbo became the iconic mascot for the Disney Fantasy – as they say – nothing says “Fantasy” like a flying elephant. I agree!

Inside Andy’s Room on the Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Wow!  Take a video tour of Andy’s Room here.

With fabulous themed play areas on the Disney Dream Cruise Ship, your kids will be begging you to drop them off in the “child care” Kids camp. Take Andy’s Room for example – just one of the awesome play areas available in the Kids’ Camp. Kids can climb on Rex, crawl through the Slinky Dog, and even lay down in Andy’s bed! This section of the Kids area was my favorite as kids literally get to experience the feeling of being toy-sized as they play in a room with larger than life characters from the classic movie, Toy Story.

Saying my kids adored immersing themselves in Andy’s room is an understatement. Join them on our video tour of Andy’s Room here.

Here’s Kenzie climbing on Rex…. yes she loved this place and we are dying to return to the Disney Dream on our own vacation someday.

And here’s Kenzie relaxing on Andy’s Bed.

Disney Cruise Line Sailing from New York City in 2012

Hooray! Today’s news from Disney Cruise Line brings new itineraries and ports of call for 2012. I am beyond ecstatic to see that New York City is added to the list for the Disney Magic with itineraries to both the Bahamas and the New England and Canadian coastline.   Galveston, Texas and Seattle Washington are also being added as departing ports.

We’ve traveled extensively with our kids, but nothing beats being able to hop in the car for a quick 1-2 hour ride before boarding the ship and instantly beginning your vacation. I see a Disney Magic sailing in my future as my husband and I are now cruising obsessed as it is the EASIEST way to travel with kids.

You can visit this Disney Cruise site for the full info. I’ve copied some of the itineraries below. Guests can begin booking these 2012 itineraries later this week on Friday April 8th, 2011.

What’s really neat about the New York City  itinerary is that it includes a 1 day free pass to go visit Disney World with a park hopper ticket – including transportation to and from the ship to the parks! Sweet!

Here’s the official scoop on the New York City departures:

Beginning May 25, 2012, the Disney Magic will sail a total of 20 cruises from New York – including eight-night cruises to the Bahamas and five-night cruises up the New England coast to Canada plus two-night cruises that will give a sampling of the Disney Cruise Line experience over a weekend:

· The eight Bahamas cruises will include a day at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay; Nassau, Bahamas; and a stop at Port Canaveral, Fla., giving guests an opportunity to visit the nearby Walt Disney World Resort.  As part of this itinerary, each guest will receive a one-day Walt Disney World Park Hopper ticket and roundtrip transportation between their Disney ship and the resort.  Rates for the new eight-night Bahamian cruise itinerary departing from New York start at $1,240 per person for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.

Our Disney Dream Cruise Vacation – Movie Style!

1st came the Disney Dream movie trailer….. Now, the full length mini movie.

It starts with a big bang.  It’s full of music and tons of footage. I promise  it will give you a taste of the pixie dust and magic that is all things Disney.

Starting off with fireworks this  movie shares all the excitement of our magical and whirlwind vacation on board the Disney Dream Cruise Christening Voyage and at Disney World Resort in Florida. We really do dream of Disney and can’t wait to go back.

Disclosure: Disney paid for my travel expenses on the Disney Dream Cruise Christening Voyage. All thoughts and opinions are our own. As you can tell we are obviously Disney fanatics :)

Kids Sail Free on 7 night Alaska Disney Cruises

Amazing deal. To celebrate  the move of the Disney Wonder cruise ship to Alaska this summer, Disney is offering a “Kids Sail Free” special. This is a huge opportunity to experience a Disney cruise and the beauty of Alaska. The full offer details are below. I’ve visited Alaska in 1999 to run a marathon and the natural beauty of the wilderness was beyond words. Doubling that with the family fun of a Disney Cruise would be incredible!
We had an amazing time on our recent Disney Dream Cruise - take a peek at our exciting 1 minute movie trailer of the highlights here. I’ve sailed the Disney Wonder before and it an incredible ship with so much to offer from spas to entertainment and now the natural beauty of the Alaska region to top it all off sounds like a dream family vacation.
Guests 17 and under can sail free on seven-night voyages aboard the Disney Wonder when traveling with two full-fare paying guests in the same Verandah or Oceanview stateroom (government taxes and fees not included). This offer is valid for most sailings departing May 3 to June 7, 2011, and covers Verandah and Oceanview stateroom categories (categories 4A to 9D).
Rates for the seven-night Alaska itinerary start at $1,249 per person for an Oceanview stateroom, based on double occupancy.

To book a vacation or for complete details on the “Kids Sail Free on Select Alaska Cruises” special offer, guests can visit disneycruise.com, call Disney Cruise Line at 888/DCL-2500 or contact their travel agent.
Guests sailing to Alaska aboard the Disney Wonder will experience breathtaking natural vistas, an abundance of wildlife and the rich history and customs of Alaska’s native culture, combined with a family-friendly cruise only Disney can deliver. The seven-night cruises call on Tracy Arm, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, and mark the first time ever that Disney Cruise Line will sail to Alaska.
Guests can use some of the savings from this offer to further enhance their Alaska cruise experience by purchasing one-of-a-kind Disney exclusive Port Adventures.  In Skagway, a fun scavenger hunt through the Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp sets the stage for a gold-panning expedition joined by beloved Disney characters.  During an exclusive Ketchikan adventure, youth counselors from the ship accompany children as they learn the art of totem carving from a native carver.  In Juneau, the Glacier Dog Musher for a Day Port Adventure, takes guests by helicopter over the massive Juneau Icefield where they will tour a sled dog camp and explore behind-the-scenes areas including the kennel, living quarters and veterinary clinic.  Mushers and their dog teams then take guests out on the snow-capped glacier for an unforgettable sled trip through the pristine wilderness.

A Video Tour of Castaway Cay

Take a peek at the gorgeous beach and crystal clear blue waters on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. This place is glorious and a cruise stop favorite as it is simple to disembark the ship and immediately enjoy the island beaches and activities without needing to board an additional transportation which is often the case in other ports.  I can’t stress enough how easy it is to step off the boat and immediately enjoy the island. All food for lunch, along with snacks of ice cream and fresh fruit are for free and easily accessible from whichever beach you happen to be enjoying once you settle in at Castaway Cay.

Upon getting off the boat we were greeted by characters too which my 5 yr old adored!

We love Castaway Cay and can’t rave enough about it. Enjoy our photos and more details on the island adventure opportunities below.

Kenzie and Mickey Mouse – our fave Disney character!

Enjoying time with Pluto and getting lots of autographs.

Our little sand diggers couldn’t get enough of the beach, water, and sand!

Meeting Lilo for the 1st time along the streets of Castaway Cay.

We definitely appreciated the easy access and availability of free jogging strollers and wagons.  A huge perk to tote the kids around the island in the wagon. They loved it. And for those with younger children, a jog stroller is the perfect way to get your tykes to sleep on the beach and keep them out of the sun.

We also loved that there were umbrellas everywhere set up and of course free of charge to use. The beach was on the empty side for our visit given this was a media cruise, but I do imagine it will be quite crowded on a regular voyage so I recommend getting off the boat early to secure the right Palm Tree and umbrella to give you the shade you might need to enjoy the day if you are the sunburning type like me and my 3 yr old son.

You can also rent these Private Cabanas for the entire day as well. 20 are available on the island so I also advise reserving them in advance. Aren’t they gorgeous? Talk about getting comfortable in the Caribbean!

You can enjoy bike riding or running too on the trails and streets on Castaway Cay. This is a super way to really explore the island with your family or to get in a great workout.

Sports equipment for more adventurous water activities plus snorkeling gear and rafts are also available for renting.  5 year old Kenzie and I signed up for the Stingray Adventure on Castaway Cay. It was fantastic and very exciting for Mackenzie to touch, feed, and then swim with Stingrays. She loved it! ($35 for adults and $29.99 for kids – the activity is about 1 hour with a 30 minute demonstration and then 30 mins. of free time to swim with the stingrays and fish.)

As for the adult only activities – there is an adult only beach called Serenity Bay. It is stunning. It even has cabanas available where you can get Spa Services like massages, facials and more all while enjoying the fresh air and looking out at the ocean.

And if you want to enjoy the adult beach and aren’t sure what to do with your kids…. well no worries. Disney has a secure child care area called Scuttle’s Cove where the kids can play in the sand, splash in sprinklers, do water relay races, participate in Sand Building contests, and even did for Whale Bones. Too cool. And again, all these child care services are absolutely free! (Age 3 required for Scuttles Cove drop off)

What a day! We’ll be remembering this adventure for a long time. Especially since we came home to frigid weather and snow in Philadelphia!

Disclosure: Special thanks to Disney for inviting my family & I on the Disney Dream Christening voyage. All thoughts and opinions are my won.

The Disney Dream Cruise Animator’s Palate Restaurant in Pictures

The kids just loved the Animator’s Palate restaurant aboard the Disney Dream. The walls came to life – literally. From sketch drawings of character from Nemo, to Crush the turtle swimming around the restaurant, talking and interacting with the diners. An amazing and totally unique experience.
